We store the minimum needed to run online leaderboards: a nickname, scores, achievements, and — only if you link an account — your email address. Anonymous play needs no personal information at all.
We don't run ads, don't sell data, don't use tracking cookies, and can't see your Google or Apple password. Leaderboards are public by design: your nickname and scores are visible to other players.
Want something deleted? Email info@cheddaboards.com and it's gone.
CheddaBoards is operated by CheddaTech Ltd, a company registered in the United Kingdom. For anything in this policy, contact info@cheddaboards.com. CheddaTech Ltd is the data controller for the information described below.
If you play anonymously (the default), we store: a randomly generated player identifier tied to your device, your chosen nickname, your scores, streaks, play counts, and achievements. That's it — no email, no real name, no account.
If you link a Google or Apple account, we additionally store your email address and which provider you used. We use your email as your sign-in identity and to merge your progress across devices. We do not receive or store your password — sign-in happens with Google or Apple directly, and we only verify the token they issue.
Sessions: when you sign in, we issue a session identifier so you stay signed in. It's stored on your device and expires automatically.
Play sessions (anti-cheat): when a game starts a run, we record when it started so score submissions can be checked against real play time. This is timing data about the game session, not surveillance of you.
If you register games with us: your email address (via Google, Apple, or Internet Identity sign-in), your game registrations, and your API keys.
Our website uses a cookieless, privacy-focused counter (Counter.dev) that gives us aggregate visit numbers — it cannot identify you.
The point of a leaderboard is that other people can see it. Your nickname, scores, streaks, and achievements are visible to other players of the games you play, and your cross-game profile carries them between CheddaBoards games. Your email address is never shown publicly. Pick a nickname you're happy to see on a scoreboard.
Game data is stored in our backend on the Internet Computer, a distributed network that replicates data across independent node providers for durability. Our API layer runs on Netlify, which processes requests in transit. Both act as infrastructure processors on our behalf — neither is given your data for their own use.
Player and developer data is kept while your account or player profile is active. Game developers can remove individual scores or wipe a player from their game's boards using our moderation tools; those removals are permanent and logged (the log stores a hashed identifier, never your email). If you want your data removed entirely, email us — see below.
Under UK GDPR you can ask us to show you the data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, export it, or restrict how it's used. Email info@cheddaboards.com from the address linked to your account (or with your nickname and game, for anonymous players) and we'll act on it — usually within days, at most within a month. If you're unhappy with how we handle it, you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
We process player and developer data to provide the service you're using (contract), to keep leaderboards fair and secure (legitimate interests — anti-cheat and abuse prevention), and, where you link an account, because you chose to (consent, which you can withdraw by asking us to unlink or delete it).
CheddaBoards games are for general audiences and anonymous play collects no personal information. Account linking requires a Google or Apple account, which carry their own age requirements. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13; if you believe a child has linked an account, email us and we'll remove it.
Games built by other developers using CheddaBoards have their own creators. This policy covers what CheddaBoards itself stores; a game may separately collect its own data under its own policy.
If this policy changes materially, we'll update the date at the top and note the change here. We won't quietly expand what we collect — data minimalism is a design decision, not a marketing line.
